ECI: What You Can Do to Support Your Child

Early childhood intervention (ECI) is important because it helps children with developmental delays or disabilities receive the support and services they need to reach their full potential. ECI programs can improve children’s physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development, increase their school readiness and success, and potentially reduce the need for special education and other interventions later in life. ECI also provides support and resources for families, promoting positive parent-child relationships and improving outcomes for the whole family.

Parents can provide early childhood intervention to their children by taking the following steps:

  • Regularly monitoring their child’s development with the help of a children medical service and seek evaluation if there are concerns
  • Encouraging and supporting their child’s learning and development through everyday activities, such as play and reading
  • Participating in their child’s therapy sessions and follow through with recommendations and exercises at home
  • Advocating for their child’s needs and rights, including accessing educational resources and support
  • Accessing community resources and services, such as ECI programs and private medical services

It’s important to remember that every child is unique and may need different types of support and services. The best way to provide ECI is to work closely with professionals and involve the child in the process as much as possible.
